Léonie has a BSc in Biological Sciences, a Masters and a PhD in applied Immunology, and an MSc (Health Promotion). Employment in the UK NHS involved clinical research, front line health promotion (HIV /AIDS, and addictions) and oversight and evaluation of teenage pregnancy and child obesity interventions. Latterly, she managed the UKCRN Diabetes Research Network .
As principal researcher for NZNO since 2008, undertook health workforce research including occupational health and safety. A named investigator on two HRC funded projects: Māori nurses and smoking, and fatigue in nurses. Particular interests include health inequalities, international health promotion, HIV/AIDS, addictions and diabetes.
