Massey University veterinary referral service

dog-at-vet.jpg

Massey Veterinary Teaching Hospital’s referral service gives our veterinary practice colleagues access to specialist diagnostic procedures and second opinions.

Our veterinarians and staff offer our patients and clients a broad collective experience. We have been trained in dedicated, specialised programmes beyond our initial veterinary education, and many of us have been field veterinarians. Our experience covers large numbers of cases, a wide variety of diagnostic and treatment methods, and exposure to the most current research and information in the veterinary profession today. We also have state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis and treatment.

The process

Please provide us with all relevant information relating to the case, including the results of any diagnostic tests and X-rays, using the relevant form below.

We will then contact the animal’s owner to make an appointment. We keep owners and veterinarians informed throughout the process and supply a full written report summarising our findings and outcome for the animal.

Phone consultation service - Small Animal Internal Medicine

As at 20 April 2020, due to a staffing shortage, we have had to make the difficult decision to suspend our referral medicine service. We are continuing to consider all options and remedies, which will hopefully enable us to revive this service as soon as we can. We appreciate your understanding during this difficult time.

We would like to advise that during this time, as an alternative to face-to-face referral, we have contracted a Small Animal Internal Medicine board-certified clinician to provide our phone consultation service for referring veterinarians.  These phone consultations can be requested for complex medical or medical oncology cases.

Phone consultation requests will be processed during business hours (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm - not including public/university holidays), and an amended request form has been created - to be used in place of any alternative forms which are currently in circulation.

We kindly ask that all sections of the form below are completed and submitted to us with any relevant supporting documentation, to our clinic email: vethospital@massey.ac.nz.

The fee for this service is $130, for which you will receive a comprehensive discussion about your case/patient; along with a brief written summary which will be provided to you by email after the consultation has occurred. A $50 fee will apply for follow-up phone consultations (i.e. to discuss new developments or additional results/findings).

Please don't hesitate to contact us should you require any further information - we are here to help.
