The 3Rs principle highlights the ethical responsibility of scientists when using sentient animals for research, teaching or testing to minimise any negative welfare impacts their procedures may have on the animals they use.
The programme was established in 2012 as a joint venture between the AWSBC and the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), and is coordinated by the Ministry. It provides a vehicle to encourage 3Rs advances, the disseminations of information on 3Rs developments within New Zealand and overseas and the profiling of New Zealand-based 3Rs successes.
This resource was prepared jointly by the AWSBC at Massey University and ANZCCART (NZ), i.e. the Australian and New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching.
