119.158 Physics and Chemistry for Applied Sciences (15 credits)

An introduction to the theories and principles of chemistry and physics with applications to applied sciences. Theories of chemical bonding are used to explain the structure of matter, and the principle of chemical equilibrium is used to determine the chemical composition of a system at equilibrium. Conservation laws, mechanical systems and the fundamental properties of electric charges and currents are introduced. Concepts from quantum mechanics and wave physics are used to describe the properties of matter and radiation. Physical and chemical principles will be investigated in the laboratory.
