Enhance your professional practice within a network of learning

Massey’s Postgraduate Certificate in Learning Support is New Zealand’s only specialist qualification for School Leaders of Learning Support/Special Education Needs Coordinators (SENCO).

What is it like?

The Postgraduate Certificate in Learning Support integrates theory and practice to explore key aspects of the Learning Support/SENCO role. It will extend your knowledge, skills and networks and provide you with a space to learn with, from and about other SENCO/School Leaders of Learning Support throughout New Zealand.

The certificate is designed around the Teacher Standards to develop your competence and confidence to:

  • develop inclusive, equitable and culturally responsive education practices within your school
  • understand curricula, NZ legislation, documents and policies and contemporary theories
  • enquire into your practice
  • enact universal design for learning and assessment
  • implement systems-based work
  • facilitate teams to support whānau, teachers and learners

Tailored to your needs

You’ll have the opportunity to design your own learning pathway relevant to your professional needs within your school context. The Postgraduate Certificate in Learning Support uses a contemporary online learning environment, so you can study when and where it suits you, using webinars, forum discussions, spotlights on practice and modules of learning.

Take your learning to the next level

After graduating, you may continue study in learning support at postgraduate diploma level.

Massey is ranked in the world’s top 150 universities for education in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking.

Your qualification options

Please note that the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning Support does not qualify you to be a teacher in New Zealand. If you want to be a teacher, you will need to take a postgraduate teaching qualification. Please explore your options in our education pathways tool.
