In physically fit people the insulin-glucose system can rapidly alter its function to preserve health in challenging situations. Mr Green described the way changes in diet can modulate the effect of exercise on insulin sensitivity. He also proposed a novel feedback system allowing changes in insulin sensitivity to promote lean tissue growth in endurance athletes. These results provide a healthy baseline for comparison with pathological alterations in the insulin-glucose system such as type-2 diabetes.
