New information following the change in COVID-19 alert levels. massey.ac.nz/coronavirus
Statistics New Zealand uses defined boundaries for the data it collects, however, these boundaries have changed over time. Agencies other than Statistics New Zealand may use different boundaries, so statistics between agencies may not be able to be compared easily.
As there are few boundary maps available before 1920, comparison of data over time will be difficult for areas smaller than provincial districts. Maps appear in some census volumes.
Statistical Maps of New Zealand 1981
Forty four maps, arranged by area.
Urban Area Boundaries 1996
Census boundary maps by region. Boundaries include Area Unit, Urban Area and Regional Council.
Geographic Boundary Viewer 2006 & 2013
Statistics New Zealand's interactive boundary maps show facts about geographic areas in New Zealand, including the number of people and households. They show the boundaries used for the 2006 and 2013 Censuses, including the regions, towns or cities, area units, and meshblocks.
