Configuring your laptop to stay on when the lid is closed

Depending on your setup, you may wish to configure your laptop so that you can close the lid while it’s docked, so that the display is on external monitors while it’s connected to the docking station. You’ll need to configure the power settings so that the laptop stays on when the lid is closed.

If you wish to have the laptop lid closed while docked:

  • Click the Start Menu (or right-click if you're using Windows 10), then click Control Panel
  • Go to Power Options
  • Click on Change plan settings (for the plan that is already selected)
  • Click Change advanced power settings
  • Click the + to expand the Power buttons and lid, and Lid close action lists
  • Under the Plugged in drop-down list, select Do nothing
  • Click OK.

If you would like the laptop to sleep, you will need to undock the machine and make sure there is no mains power connected to the laptop when you close the lid.
