The events also serve as trials for World University Games and World University Championships.

Points from each competition will go towards an overall winning the University and Tertiary Sport New Zealnad Shield. Some of the events provide the winning teams to represent New Zealand at the World University Games. Other events may also provide for students to qualify for World University Championships in their respective sports.

                               THE 2017 FINAL POINTS TABLE

Selection committee

A five person selection committee will review all athletes who register their interest for joining a Massey University team.

The selection committee will be made up of one representative from each campus, nominated by agreement from the Recreation Manager and the Student President from each campus. These three individuals will select the team.

In addition, the two Massey University high performance coordinators will provide (non-voting) advice on the athletes who have registered.

Selection Process

The Selection Committee will chose a team or individual who they determine to be best placed to represent Massey University at the highest level. Some of the factors involved in the selection process will include:

  • Athletes who are currently enrolled at Massey University
  • The location of the competition.  It has been agreed between the three campuses that the campus closest to the actual event will take lead on representing the university.  This limitation is linked to keeping costs down by reducing transport expenses.
  • If location is not the deciding factor, then the campus with a team who is involved in the sport, and are willing to attend will then be considered.
  • Individual sport competitions are more likely to be based on competitive merit, availability to participate and location of the event.

Athletes should expect to cover their own cost of registration, travel, accommodation and equipment. The Recreation Centre and Student Association will undertake to assist where they are capable of doing so within the limits of their respective resources.

Students may seek assistance through the club grant process to defray costs.  There is no guarantee of financial assistance from the University or the Student Associations. In addition, individuals and teams are encourage to fund raise to cover their costs of competition.
