New information following the change in COVID-19 alert levels. massey.ac.nz/coronavirus
My name is Frances Chua. I work as a lecturer at the School of Accountancy and have been a harassment contact person since 1997. As we all know, even though the university is an academic community, it is not immune to incidents of discrimination, unfair treatment, aggressive behaviour, imbalance of power and the like that exist in the increasingly pluralistic society. Both staff and students may feel harassed at times. I joined the harassment contact person network with the intent to offer support and advice to complainants and to facilitate their decisions on whatever action they choose to take. As the university has increased its intake of students of Asian descents, I think my understanding of the Asian culture and familiarity of the Chinese language will be useful. I can be contacted on extension 83933 or at Social Sciences Tower (SST) Room 1.18.
Hi, my name is Wei-Hang Chua (Wei). I teach physiology and am based in the School of Food and Nutrition. I think that your life as a student or staff member at Massey should be enjoyable, rewarding and trouble-free. However, there may be instances where you experience discrimination, feel you are receiving unfair treatment, or be the object of inappropriate behaviour. If you want someone to sit down and listen to your concerns, feel free to contact me on 83326, email email@example.com, or find me in my office in Riddet A Room 2.64.
Hello my name is Rana RavindranI am a Food Chemist, lecturing similar disciplines in Food Technology and Nutrition at Massey.
Harassment is a type of inappropriate power, an issue that is not desired and humiliates or offends or intimidates a person. We as individuals must do our best to make sure that such a thing does not occur anywhere, especially in our work place, a tertiary institution. I can be contacted through email G.Ravindran@massey.ac.nz first to arrange best times to meet.
Hi my name is Heather Kavan and I lecture in Communication and Journalism, and I have worked for several years on a 24-hour crisis phone line. I know how distressing harassment and bullying can be. I also know that it is often the most good natured people that bullies target (and sometimes the most gifted people too). If you are being harassed, there are ways of taking back your power. You are most welcome to contact me; I’m a good listener and only an email or phone call away. I can be contacted via email H.firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone on extn 83969 or direct dial (06) 951 6969.
