The Future Leaders Scholarships were established to support students enrolling in a Massey Business School undergraduate degree providing tuition fee assistance and developmental mentoring to undergraduate degree students. The scholarships are designed to recognize excellence and to enable equitable access to study for Maori and Pacific students.

Value and tenure
The Future Leaders Scholarship comprise of a package as follows:
$5000 tuition fee payment in year two of the enrolment
$5000 tuition fee payment in year three of the enrolment
Scholar development opportunities over the duration of the three-year programme enrolment, including:
o Faculty mentoring
o Peer Mentoring
o Leadership development training sessions
o Community service

The tuition fee payments will be paid in two equal installments to the Massey University Student Fees account after the official financial withdrawal date in:
Semester 1 in the second year of study, subject to academic achievement in the 1st year of study
Semester 1 in the third year of study, subject to academic achievement in the 2nd year of study

The tenure of this scholarship is 3 years following the award of the scholarship.

Typical number on offer
20 scholarships are offered annually, with the goal to award at least 25 per cent to students
of Māori and Pacific descent.

All applicants must:
be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
be transitioning to Massey University from secondary school
intending to enrol full-time (minimum 105 credits) in the first year of an eligible Bachelor degree programme (see conditions of study)
have attained an NCEA Level 2 Certificate with a merit endorsement or better (or equivalent qualification)
in the opinion of their school, must be clearly capable of achieving University Entrance.
have been the leader of a school academic or cultural group, or captain of one of the school’s sports teams, or a leader within a community group or organisation.

Selection criteria
The selection is based on:
academic achievement
evidence of leadership and potential leadership

Selection panel
The scholarship is awarded by University Scholarship Committee on the recommendation of the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Massey Business School.

Conditions of the scholarship
Where a student withdraws from study, any payment offered through this scholarship will not be honoured or credited for future use.
All recipients must fully engage in the Future Leaders Leadership programme and be actively involved in a service role and/or Massey University Club to remain eligible (from the time of commencing an eligible programme of study).

Eligible programmes include:
• Bachelor of Business (BBus)
• Bachelor of Accountancy (BAcc)
• Bachelor of Aviation (BAv)
• Bachelor of Aviation Management (BAvMan)
• Bachelor of Communication (BC) (communication management, marketing communication, public relations, journalism majors)
• Bachelor of AgriCommerce (BAgriCom) (offered in conjunction with the College of Science)
• Bachelor of Sport Management (BSptMgt)
• Conjoint programmes (BBus/BA, BBus/BSc)

The scholarship is tenable with other scholarships.

Application Checklist
You should prepare the following before starting the application

•Transcripts for your secondary school results. If you are completing NCEA you need to provide a copy of your School Results Summary from the NZQA website
• Examples and evidence of your leadership experience
•A brief statement (150 words) outlining what your future goals are in relation to your study
•A written statement (300 words) indicating why you think you should be awarded this scholarship; expanding on your leadership achievements
•A supporting statement from the Year 13 Dean or Principal confirming your leadership roles in the school, or, a supporting statement by a leader of the community group or organisation confirming your leadership roles within the organisation
•A statement from the Year 13 Dean or Principal confirming that they believe you are clearly capable of achieving University Entrance at the end of this year (if applicable)
•Supporting evidence of your cultural identity (if applicable)
For Māori applicants this is written confirmation of your whakapapa, from a Kaumātua. For Pacific students this is written confirmation from either a Church or Community Leader
