Students with a refugee background.

Level of study

The For Better Initiative English and Foundation Pathways Bursary provides financial support to people with a refugee background.

The For Better Initiative is a New Zealand registered charity working to dismantle barriers to education faced by people with a refugee background.

Value and tenure
The value of the bursary is a one-off payment of $500 and it is to be used towards course fees at the start of semester one.

Applicants must:
•be studying full time
•only be undertaking English and foundation pathway courses
•have a refugee background (including children of former refugees)
•be enrolled at the Manawatū campus.

Selection criteria
Academic achievement and financial hardship will be considered equally.

Applicants need to answer the following question in a letter: “What effect do you think education will have on your future?”

Selection panel
The award will be made on the recommendation of a selection committee consisting of:
•the Chairperson of the Scholarships Committee, or their nominee
•a representative from The For Better Initiative
•an academic staff member from the appropriate area of study.

Conditions of the bursary
The bursary may be held in conjunction with other scholarships, bursaries or awards, so long as those scholarships, bursaries or awards permit co-tenure

Closing date
30 November

Application cannot be accepted before 30/08/2019.
