These Scholarships are named in honour of Sir Alan Stewart, the first Vice-Chancellor of Massey University. They are to encourage new postgraduate enrolments from other tertiary institutions and to assist Massey students to progress from undergraduate to postgraduate study.

Tenure and Value
Up to ten Scholarships to the value of $4,000 for full-time students and pro-rated for part-time students will be awarded annually for study at any Massey University campus.

Candidates must:
"be enrolled or be intending to enrol full-time or part-time, in the year the award is to be made, in their initial year of a first postgraduate programme*, undertaken either internally or extramurally;
"have completed an undergraduate degree at a New Zealand university;
"be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

* If you have completed a postgraduate programme at any university, you are not eligible to apply.

The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit in the undergraduate degree, and post-graduate results for reapplying part-time students (see Conditions) Consideration will normally only be given to students with a B+ average or better.

Responsibility for the Award
The Scholarship shall be awarded by the University Scholarships Committee.

The emolument will be paid in two equal instalments on confirmation of enrolment in semester one in April and semester two in August.

These Scholarships are not tenable with any other Massey University scholarships or awards, including the award of Massey Scholar.The University has the right to refrain from making the award in the event of there being no suitable applicants.

Full-time students may hold the scholarship only once. Part-time students who were recipients in their initial year may re-apply to the maximum of $4,000 in a period of 4 years from first enrolment in the Postgraduate programme.

Closing Date
The closing date for application is 1 December.

Applications will NOT be accepted more than 3 months in advance of the closing date.
