Level of study
The Helen E. Akers doctoral scholarship financially supports agriculture and horticulture doctoral students.
This scholarship was established under the terms of the will of Helen E. Akers. The scholarship is funded from her shares in Maraekowhai Developing Company.
Value and tenure
The annual value of the scholarship is up to $6,000.
The scholarships are usually awarded annually. The tenure is for a single academic year but recipients are welcome to reapply.
Typical number on offer
The number of scholarships offered each year varies widely depending on how much funding is available.
Applicants must be enrolled full time for a doctoral degree in one of the Applied Academic Programme disciplines relevant to agriculture or horticulture (course prefix of 111, 112, 117, 119, 138, 171, 188, 189, 239 or 239) at Massey University.
The selection criterion is academic merit.
The University Scholarships Committee may take account of other scholarships and bursaries held by the applicants in seeking an equitable distribution of funds.
The scholarship is awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee, College of Sciences.
The University Scholarships Committee has the right to refrain from making an award if there are no suitable applicants and its decision is final.
Conditions of the scholarship
The Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee may recommend the withdrawal or suspension of an award at any time if the recipient fails to make satisfactory academic progress.
The scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships, bursaries or awards, so long as those scholarships, bursaries or awards permit co-tenure.
