Purpose
The Peter Densem Undergraduate Scholarship supports students at Massey University who have already completed the first year of an undergraduate programme in agriculture or horticulture. It is for talented, high-achieving students who would otherwise struggle to pay for their study.

Background
This scholarship was established in 2017 by Peter Densem from Tauranga marking the year he turned 100. Mr Densem was a teacher and principal and served in World War II as a Fleet Air Arm navigator.

Value and Tenure
The value of each scholarship is up to $7000, depending on available funds.
The tenure is one year, but recipients are encouraged to reapply again in subsequent years if eligible.

Typical Number on Offer
Three scholarships are typically offered each year.

Eligibility
Applicants must:
•be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
•be enrolled full time in an undergraduate programme in agriculture or horticulture at Massey University
•have already completed their first year of the programme
•have a grade point average of 6.0 (B+) or better

Selection Criteria
Selection is based on:
•academic merit
•demonstrated work ethic as shown in a letter of reference from a current or former employer, a former school staff member, or from a lecturer testifying to this
•evidence of financial hardship

Selection Panel
The scholarship is awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee, College of Sciences.
The selection panel has the right to refrain from making an award if there are no suitable applicants and its decision is final.

Conditions of the Scholarship
Payment will be made in two equal instalments with the second payment being subject to good academic progress.
The scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships, bursaries or awards, so long as these permit co-tenure.

Application cannot be accepted before 30/09/2020.
