Level of study
The Johannes August Anderson Postgraduate Scholarship financially supports postgraduate agriculture and horticulture students.
This scholarship was established under the terms of the will of Johannes August Anderson, a retired farmer.
Value and tenure
The annual value of the scholarship is up to $3000.
The scholarship is usually offered annually and the tenure is for a single academic year.
At the discretion of the University all, or part, of the annual interest may be reinvested to maintain the value of the capital fund so the scholarship may not be granted each and every year.
Typical number on offer
Two scholarships are typically offered each year.
Applicants must be enrolled full time for a postgraduate degree or a postgraduate diploma in an Applied Academic Programme discipline relevant to agriculture or horticulture (paper prefix of 111, 112, 117, 119, 138, 171, 188, 189, 238, 239, 283 or 285)
The selection criterion is academic merit.
The University Scholarships Committee may take account of other scholarships and bursaries held by the applicants in seeking an equitable distribution of funds.
The scholarship is awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee.
The University Scholarships Committee has the right to refrain from making an award if there are no suitable applicants and its decision is final.
Conditions of the scholarship
The Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee may withdraw or suspend an award at any time if the recipient fails to make satisfactory academic progress.
The scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships, bursaries or awards, so long as those scholarships, bursaries or awards permit co-tenure.
