Level of Study
The Allan Kay Undergraduate Memorial Scholarship helps students obtain a university education, especially those facing financial difficulties.
This scholarship was established under the terms of the will of Grace Edith Meliora Kay, in memory of her husband Allan Kay. The Kays farmed at Orakau, near Te Awamutu.
Value and Tenure
The annual value of each scholarship is up to $3000. The money is paid in May subject to academic progress satisfactory to the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee, College of Science.
The scholarship is offered annually as funds permit.
The maximum tenure of the scholarship is the minimum number of years necessary to graduate in the degree in which the applicant enrolled. The scholarship tenure is normally for one year only but recipients are welcome to apply again in future years.
Typical Number on Offer
Six scholarships are typically offered each year.
Applicants must be:
•enrolled full time at Massey University for an undergraduate degree in agriculture or horticulture (mainly with paper prefixes of 112, 117, 119, 189, 283, 284 and 285).
•New Zealand-born residents.
•no older than 30 years old in the year in which the scholarship is initially awarded.
The selection criterion is academic merit. Financial need will also be taken into account.
Preference normally is given to applicants who intend to enter a career in agriculture or horticulture in New Zealand, and emphasis may be placed on those intending to enter a research career.
The Trustees may take account of other scholarships and bursaries held by the applicants in seeking an equitable distribution of funds.
The scholarship is awarded by the University Scholarship Committee on the recommendation of the Trustees of the estate of Grace Edith Meliora Kay and the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee, College of Science.
The Trustees have the right to refrain from making an award if there are no suitable applicants and their decision is final.
Application cannot be accepted before 30/09/2020.
