Purpose
The Joe Walding Memorial Bursary provides financial support to students studying specified business courses and that are residing in the Manawatu, Whanganui or Wellington region.

Background
The bursary was established in memory of the late Honourable J A Walding, Member of Parliament for Palmerston North, Minister of Overseas Trade and New Zealand High Commissioner in London.

Tenure and Value
Typically two bursaries are offered annually.
The tenure is for one academic year and the value of the bursary is $3,000.

Eligibility
Applicants must be:
•a New Zealand citizen
•studying full-time or part-time, in any study mode
•enrolled at Massey University in one of the following programmes: Postgraduate Diploma in Business, Master of Business Administration, Master of Advanced Leadership Practice, Master of Public Administration, Master of Analytics, Master of Management, or Master of Business Studies

The course of study of the bursary recipient shall include a research report of at least 30 credits or thesis on a topic that affects New Zealand.

Selection criteria
Financial need as well as academic merit will be the criteria for making the award.

Selection Panel
The bursary shall be awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of a nominee of the Walding family, the Head of the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing (convenor), the Head of the School of Management (or nominee), and the College of Business University Scholarships Committee representative.

Conditions of the bursary
Bursary recipients must reside, for at least the majority of the year of study, within the Manawatu-Whanganui region or the Wellington region.

The bursary may be held in conjunction with other scholarships, bursaries or awards, so long as those scholarships, bursaries or awards permit co-tenure

The selection panel has the right to refrain from making an award if there are no suitable applicants and its decision is final.
