Dr. Janet Sayers is primarily interested in the idea of the 'human' in relation to pressures from, on the one hand, technology including biotechnology, and on the other, our relationship with the 'natural' world and ecological crisis. She uses concepts and tools from the humanities, including literature analysis, cultural studies and especially the new wave of critical feminist posthumanism, to critique business challenges in novel and engaging ways to help shift practice towards more sustainable and ethical relations with each other, animals and the larger ecology. Dr. Sayers' work is wide-ranging as she often helps her students publish into industry journals. Forthcoming work in 2020 includes papers on perceptions of zoo visitors on animal welfare, and the implications for organisatrional studies of the dialogue between feminist thought and speculative fiction via Ursula Le Guin.

She has published widely on technology, diversity, entrepreneurship and non-human animals and organization.
Theoretical expertise: Post-humanism, post-anthropomorphism, feminist new materialism, feminist care ethics (Donna Haraway, Rosi Braidotti, Karen Barad, Jane Bennett). Comic theory (Judith Roof).
Methodological expertise: Narrative analysis, story analysis, discourse analysis and other language-based methodologies. Visual methods. Writing differently.

Janet Sayers has experience teaching a wide range of courses in diversity management, organisational behaviour, service management, human resource management, small business management and entrepreneurship and other business courses. In 2020 Janet Sayers is teaching postgraduate courses - Advanced Organisational Behaviour. Janet uses novel approaches to teaching and real-life case studies. Janet Sayers is a highly engaged and very experienced supervisor. She is Research Director of the School fo Management and Coordinates the PhD Programme of the School. Janet is interested in supervising projects that are novel and/or creative and deal with contemporary social and business challenges. Her expertise is in narrative and story methods of analysis. She has a particular interest in posthumanist theory and is interested in projects that investigate implications of the mutable nature of 'being human' in the 21st century, and especially the business challenges that emerge with new technological innovations and also our relationships with ecology and animals.
