Current Roles and Responsibilities
Co-Founder of the New Zealand Product Stewardship Council and the Aotearoa Plastic Pollution Alliance; she has been a member of the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Expert Group (Marine Litter and Microplastics) since 2017; nominated to its associated Scientific Advisory Committee last year. A member of New Zealand’s National Container Deposit Scheme Working Group. Her co-edited book with Dr Sy Taffel and Professor Ian Shaw, Plastic Legacies: Pollution, Persistence, and Politics is in press. University Representative, Association of Social Anthropologists Aotearoa New Zealand (ASAANZ). Massey University's Focal Point for the Association of Commonwealth Universities Blue Charter Fellows (Marine Plastics).
Research focus: plastic pollution from a range of social science perspectives.
Research interests include community-based development; protected area management;conservation; Indigenous Fijian epistemologies and methodologies, development, indigenous Fijian micropolitics, governance, and entrepreneurship; socio-cultural analyses of waste minimisation; informal economies; collective memory work; Pacific Islands waste management.
