I am a critical sociolinguist specialising in discourse relating to minority languages in multilingual contexts, and language and minorities more generally. I analyse how people advance their personal interests through discourse, and particularly how minority groups discursively resist imbalances of power. I have recently returned to Aotearoa and Wellington, after ten years working at the University of Luxembourg. My research investigates language ideologies, policies and practices in New Zealand and Europe, using data from interviews, naturally occurring interactions, social media, advertising, policy documents, literacy diaries, and drawings.
