Entry requirements

Applicants to this programme must have a University Entrance qualification. No portfolio is required.

Ways to get a recognised university entrance qualification include: NCEA, Cambridge International Examinations, International Baccalaureate, Admission with Equivalent Status, Discretionary Entrance or Special Admission.

Application Due Date

  • •    Mid-February for a Semester One start, and 30 June for a Semester Two start. Late applications will be considered if space is available.

Studying courses in the Certificate in Visual Arts can be a good way to develop your portfolio for entry to the Bachelor of Design (Hons) or the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons).

If you are accepted into the design or fine arts programmes after having completed the Certificate in Visual Arts you can credit or transfer courses you have already completed in the certificate to the degree programme.

The Certificate in Visual Arts is an open entry programme consisting of 60 credits (4 courses) at 100-level from the programme schedule and/or approved courses from the schedules for the Bachelor of Design (Hons) or Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons).
