Thesis Title
Acoustic wave and bond rupture based biosensor: Principle and development

Read article at Massey Research Online: MRO icon

Mr Hirst investigated the performance of acoustic wave bond rupture biosensors. Traditional bond rupture devices measure mass loading of bound particles. The devices use acoustic excitation of the point of attachment to probe the strength of the bonds between particle and substrate. A numerical model of single particle bond rupture was developed and used to evaluate improvements to existing sensors. Further, the performance of alternative devices was evaluated and the devices fabricated and tested. The new developments increase the applications of bond rupture and permit integration into complimentary sensors.
